The Data & Innovation unit supports all departments within Security Services: Security Operations, (Cyber) Intelligence, Integrity and Regulations.

Together, we are responsible for:

• improving analyses and predictive insights;
• enabling faster and better-informed decision-making;
• supporting the shift from reactive to proactive risk management;
• preparing Security Services for the threats and security challenges of tomorrow;
• ensuring that data and innovation are used responsibly, securely and in accordance with privacy requirements.

Coordinate privacy activities

In addition to your Data & Innovation responsibilities, you act as the first point of contact for operational privacy questions and for the privacy strategy within Security Services.

You:

• coordinate privacy-related activities within the department;
• help prepare and maintain Data Protection Impact Assessments and other privacy assessments;
• support privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default reviews for new and changed processes, tools and data uses;
• help maintain relevant privacy documentation, including records of processing activities;
• advise teams on data minimisation, retention, access, data sharing and the appropriate use of personal data.

You work closely with KLM’s central privacy experts, the Data Protection Officer. The formal, independent responsibilities of the Data Protection Officer remain separate from this coordinating role.

Provide data-driven support to security operations

You work with data relating to areas such as cyber threats, overflight risks, physical security and integrity cases. You identify and interpret risks and translate your findings into practical insights and courses of action for the KLM Group. You clearly communicate the assumptions, limitations and level of confidence associated with your analyses.

Drive process improvement and innovation

You help align processes across the different Security Services units and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. These may include new tools, automation, AI applications and decision-support solutions..

Foster a culture of data-driven working and innovation

You help colleagues use data, analyses and digital tools effectively and responsibly in their daily work. You facilitate sessions, explain complex information in clear language and encourage learning, experimentation and continuous improvement. You also act as data lead for your domain. In this role, you contribute to clear data definitions, ownership, quality, metadata, retention requirements and appropriate access controls.

Work closely with D&T

You work intensively with the Data & Technology (D&T) platform to access data, tools and cloud environments and to deliver sustainable, secure and scalable solutions. You help ensure that solutions have clear ownership and comply with relevant requirements concerning data quality, privacy, information security, access management and lifecycle management.

Security Services consists of five units: Intelligence, Regulations, Operations, Integrity, and Data & Innovation. This position is part of the Data & Innovation unit.

The Security Services department provides services 24/7 to safeguard the continuity of the KLM Group’s operations and business processes. It acts both proactively and reactively in response to security threats, risks and challenges, under the motto: Your security, our priority!

Your workplace will be Building 201 at Schiphol-East. You will generally work at this location for at least three days per week, taking your working hours and operational requirements into account. On the other days, you may work from home if the nature of your work allows it.

You combine strong analytical skills with practical knowledge of privacy and data governance. You have an affinity with new technologies and security and can translate complex data and regulatory issues into clear, workable advice.

You are comfortable working with technical specialists, operational teams and other stakeholders. You handle confidential and sensitive information carefully and understand the importance of need-to-know access, accuracy and discretion.

You also bring:

• a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, for example in data science, business analytics, information management, computer science, privacy, law or a related field;
• at least two years of relevant professional experience in data analysis, data governance and privacy;
• demonstrable experience in analysing and combining data and translating findings into actionable insights;
• knowledge of data quality, data ownership, access controls, retention and responsible data use;
• sound knowledge of privacy regulations, including the GDPR;
• practical experience with privacy assessments, such as Data Protection Impact Assessments, and with privacy by design;
• experience developing or maintaining internal privacy guidelines, procedures and controls;
• experience supporting change processes, including the implementation of new technologies, processes or ways of working;
• the ability to communicate analytical and privacy topics clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Experience with one or more of the following is an advantage:

• AI governance and the EU AI Act;
• a privacy qualification such as CIPP/E, CIPM or an equivalent certification;
• aviation, security, cyber, intelligence, integrity or another regulated environment.
