Department
At the Royal Schiphol Group, we have established a Data, AI & Analytics department (DnA), tasked with accelerating our group-wide transition to a truly data-driven organization. This department oversees the strategic use of AI, data and applied data science across the Royal Schiphol Group to identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation with new data products and services. The department is also responsible for data governance & quality frameworks, our centralized business intelligence function and the close connection with IT on a future-proof data infrastructure.
Analytics is a relatively new capability in this department. This capability is responsible for:
- Identifying and exploring new opportunities for data;
- perform one-off analyses to answer tactical or strategic questions;
- advice on how to increase the value from existing data solutions for the airport.
The Analytics team works on a great diversity of datasets and data problems. To give you an idea:
- Use occupancy and queuing data to gain more insight in the check-in process and hence prevent dangerous situations in the light of Covid-19;
- Explore opportunities in the airside process for using data to improve on time performance of aircrafts;
- Working with airliners, handlers, Day to Day operations and our process owners to reduce turnaround delay by analyzing process performance and providing fact-based advice for improvements.
What will you do?
As a Lead Data Analyst you will be responsible for the Analytics capability (team of 15-20 FTE). You set the example by being involved in high-impact analyses. To do this, you have experience with tools like Notebooks, PySpark, Python, Matplotlib. Furthermore, you work with the business to first gain domain knowledge around different topics (e.g. luggage, passenger flow sensor system, assets, airport and airline process) to understand the problem and translate that into analyses for the team. From the different data sources available (in Schiphol these are many), you assess the potential value in the data and work with the business to define an approach to answer their critical questions. Besides non-formal interactions, you provide status updates to stakeholders (and your team) via reviews. As a deliverable you provide understandable reports and present the data-based results to the business to demonstrate value and drive informed decision.
You will communicate with the rest of the DnA department to align the activities in the Analytics capability with other capabilities. You support the set up of quarterly targets for the team. You coach and give direction to the data analysts in the team. You further improve the analytics capability by driving initiatives that for example improve the tooling, way of working or collaboration.
